Job Purpose
The successful candidate will support and develop internal health procedures, standards and treatment protocols to enable respective health care providers to deliver medical services according to business requirements and industry best practices by implementing revised verification processes ensuring successful implementation of these protocols.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide primary health care services within the scope of professional standards including physical assessment, screening, triage, health education/counselling, history taking, managing laboratory and X-ray requisitions, prescription of treatment, referral and follow-up, and other clinical activities according to the hospital or clinic’s standards of clinical practice.
• Consult with senior medical staff and other providers when the patient’s condition requires care beyond the scope of practice.
• Inform the patients of their illnesses.
• Perform basic surgical procedures in obstetrics and gynecology and surgery, including performing surgery independently and managing common obstetric and gynecological and appropriate surgical emergencies (suturing, incision and drainages, local anesthesia, assisted breech deliveries, C-sections, applying plaster of Paris, etc.).
• Observe patients in the wards.
• Participate in, and share responsibility for, the on-call emergency medical coverage at the hospital or clinic.
• Coordinate the management of the satellite clinic, where applicable, ensuring the clinic is fully equipped, adequately supplied, meets infection control standards and that medicines and controlled drugs are monitored and accounted for.
• Practice cost-effective health care and resource allocation without compromising quality of care.
• Provide Medical Emergency Response and preparedness program oversight by liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrate caring and respectful behaviors when interacting with patients and their families.
• Maintain and develop professional competence through training or appropriate continuing education.
• Provide input into the competency profile of the on-site emergency response team.
• Accurately and adequately document and record information regarding the care process for medical, legal, quality and billing purposes.
• Participate in site SHE inspections, audits and reviews to assess compliance to SHE standards.
• Doctor of Medicine (MBChB/MD) or Advanced Diploma in Clinical Medicine
• 3–5 years of working experience in a similar environment
• Registered with the relevant medical professional body
• Certification in Basic Life Support or ALS or ATLS is an added advantage
• Demonstrate understanding of payment systems that provide coverage for patient care
