Job Purpose

The successful candidate will support and develop internal health procedures, standards and treatment protocols to enable respective health care providers to deliver medical services according to business requirements and industry best practices by implementing revised verification processes ensuring successful implementation of these protocols.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

•     Provide primary health care services within the scope of professional standards including physical assessment, screening, triage, health education/counselling, history taking, managing laboratory and X-ray requisitions, prescription of treatment, referral and follow-up, and other clinical activities according to the hospital or clinic’s standards of clinical practice.

•     Consult with senior medical staff and other providers when the patient’s condition requires care beyond the scope of practice.

•     Inform the patients of their illnesses.

•     Perform basic surgical procedures in obstetrics and gynecology and surgery, including performing surgery independently and managing common obstetric and gynecological and appropriate surgical emergencies (suturing, incision and drainages, local anesthesia, assisted breech deliveries, C-sections, applying plaster of Paris, etc.).

•     Observe patients in the wards.

•     Participate in, and share responsibility for, the on-call emergency medical coverage at the hospital or clinic.

•     Coordinate the management of the satellite clinic, where applicable, ensuring the clinic is fully equipped, adequately supplied, meets infection control standards and that medicines and controlled drugs are monitored and accounted for.

•     Practice cost-effective health care and resource allocation without compromising quality of care.

•     Provide Medical Emergency Response and preparedness program oversight by liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

•     Demonstrate caring and respectful behaviors when interacting with patients and their families.

•     Maintain and develop professional competence through training or appropriate continuing education.

•     Provide input into the competency profile of the on-site emergency response team.

•     Accurately and adequately document and record information regarding the care process for medical, legal, quality and billing purposes.

•     Participate in site SHE inspections, audits and reviews to assess compliance to SHE standards.

•     Doctor of Medicine (MBChB/MD) or Advanced Diploma in Clinical Medicine

•     3–5 years of working experience in a similar environment

•     Registered with the relevant medical professional body

•     Certification in Basic Life Support or ALS or ATLS is an added advantage

•     Demonstrate understanding of payment systems that provide coverage for patient care

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

·        Ensures that all operations are carried out as per the ISO 9001: 2000 Quality Management System at Kilombero Sugar to achieve the quality standards.

·        Repairs electrical breakdowns including major breakdowns.

·        Maintains a clean working environment with proper housekeeping.

·        Carries out Domestic electrical maintenance and repairs according to agreed work standards.

·        Control requisitions for spares and discuss with Electrical Foreman.

·        Co-operate with management to enable them to perform their duties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

·        Abides to safety requirements and standards.

·        Perform all tasks with “awareness” towards the prevention of any forms of pollution to the surrounding and environment.

Job Qualification and Experience

·        Diploma of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and above from a recognized Institution

·        2+ years’ experience working in electrical activities

·        Knowledge on Fault tracing and troubleshooting

·        Extensive knowledge in Electrical Fault tracing and troubleshooting Electrical System, running behaviour, safety and lock out procedures.

The successful candidate will be responsible to operate and monitor process units including Mixed Juice handling, Juice heating (screened and clarified juice heating), Clarification, Filtration and Evaporation. Ensuring set target parameters for each unit is achieved as per shift KPI. Back-end maintenance during breakdown and off crop.

• Monitors the performance of the plant units i.e., juice heating, clarification, filtration, and evaporation on a continual shift basis using the DCS system to achieve the target parameters as per KPI.
• Monitor key parameters example juice temperature, clear juice pH, syrup brix, pol%filter cake, pressure, and vacuum settings in real time and take appropriate & timely action to enable running to agreed Food Safety Quality standards & specification at all times.
• Adjust and alterations to the process variables in conjunction with the Raw house foreman, to ensure that the plant unit is operating as per procedure to achieve set targets for each unit as per KPIs.
• Solves process problems and deviations, by taking the appropriate corrective action to meet production KPIs.
• Monitors plant unit profiles after online and laboratory analysis results and takes corrective action to maintain all intermediate products quality and minimize losses. Captures required data on computer to calculate the plant efficiencies.
• Together with the Raw house foreman and site Operators/Attendant, diagnose the cause of problems/breakdowns by troubleshooting by applying the necessary problem-solving tools, e.g. 5Why, Fishbone etc.
• Responsible for shutting down and starting up the described plant units (Mixed Juice handling, Juice heating, Clarification, Filtration and Evaporation) as per SOPs.
• Operates and monitor mixed juice heating station according to the prescribed procedures to achieve the flashing temperature before clarification.
• Regulates and monitor clarification station by ensuring better control of lime and flocculant dosing to achieve good quality of Clear juice (pH, turbidity and clarity.
• Follow appropriate safety procedures of liquidating the Clarifier during a long stop.
• Ensures steady flow across juice heaters and evaporator also ensuring better control of levels across evaporator to avoid entrainment losses.
• Monitor Vapor bleed distribution accordingly for better steam economy. Monitor steam recovery system is efficient from the flashing system at evaporator station and able to troubleshoot any abnormalities.
• Adheres to safety procedures, maintains the control room housekeeping, quality and environmental standards.
• Records production data and any other required information on appropriate log sheet and logbook with the assistance of the site operators/attendants.
• Trains, as required, plant personnel on the Control Room operation.
• Takes on the role of a safety watch during plant shutdowns after hours to ensure that personnel (especially contractors) adhere to the company’s safety standards.

·        To operate the evaporator station and produce syrup of brix of between 63+ 69% which minimizing sucrose inversion and colour formation.

• During cleaning of evaporators as per schedule, should ensure the safety procedures for isolation and liquidation of vessel is done properly and lockouts are in place as per SOPs.
• Expected to be SME for described plant units and attend meetings as well as trainings for improvement initiatives.
• Responsible for plant unit inspection i.e. vacuum leaks, valve leaks, pumps and should report any abnormal to Raw house foreman.
• Ensure good condensate generation from evaporators with required quality, any deviation should be reported to raw house foreman.
• During scheduled stops, shall assist in maintenance work as assigned by supervisor.
• Together with site operator/attendant should ensure preparation of lime and flocculant is done as per SOPs.
• Monitor and regulate mud belt filters operation and achieve target parameters i.e., flow of mud to filters, speed of filter, dosing rate of lime and flocculant, filtrate pH as per SO.
• Ensure proper handing over at the end of his/her shift according to the handing over procedures.
• When involved in any incident that may affect your/others health or which has caused an injury to you, or impacted on the environment, report such incident to your Front-end foreman not later than the end of the shift during which the incident occurred.
• Performs any other duties as assigned by relevant line manager.
• Manages and delegates actions site Operators/Attendants to ensure optimal operation of plant units.

• Form 6 or A-Level Secondary Education with Mathematics and Science
• Diploma in Sugar Production
• Diploma in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering/Production Management
• At least 3 years’ experience working in sugar industry.
• Exposure to production environment, Operational experience in a factory, preferably a sugar factory.
